Quickie question for you September 21, 2009

Since the birth, I’ve had some abdominal tenderness. I think it’s getting better and is, in any case, fairly mild by now. I feel it when I touch my stomach and when I sit up from lying down. I can’t quite decide whether it’s the skin or the muscles or something else I am feeling. I figured it was normal but my mom freaked me out a little. I don’t want to call Dr. WCS, for a variety of reasons ranging from not wanting to speak to Nurse Idiot to not trusting his answer anyway.

Yesterday I asked a woman who gave birth two months ago whether her abdomen was sore, and she responded, “Oh no. My stomach was flat right away. But it’s normal yours is swollen. Lots of women are still huge when they leave the hospital.”

I tried again to make myself understood but it was loud and English is not her first language and she was too busy congratulating herself on her body.

“Honey,” I thought, annoyed and unkind. “Your stomach isn’t even flat now.”

So I ask you, is a little abdominal tenderness normal 4 weeks postpartum or do I really need to call Dr. WCS?

I was sore for at least four months after my c-section; I always figured I was on the slow end of the healing curve. I especially felt it when wearing heels.

I’d call. If it isn’t a medical issue, it could be that your abdominal muscles are separated–pilates is the cure for that!

I have the muscle separation and it didn’t hurt that long, but then again, I didn’t have a c-sec. either, so not sure. I’d call the doc to get a pelvic just in case.

I hurt for months, and finally realized I needed to massage my stomach to get it desensitized. But it hurt while I was pregnant, so it didn’t surprise me. But I’m not saying don’t call.

Hi, mine was extremely sore for three weeks, moderately sore for eight weeks, I felt painful twinges until twelve weeks, and it was around six months that it stopped feeling kind of strange sometimes. I had a c-section.

But…since it is hard to tell via the internet how sore is sore, it is worth checking to make sure that you are healing well.

I hope that it starts to feel better soon.
